About Sally Cheng (Orthopaedic Hand Wrist, Elbow & Microvascular)

Dr Sally Cheng is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in hand, wrist, elbow, and microvascular surgery.

She appreciates the emotional significance of the hand not merely as a tool, but as a means of interaction and self-expression, and believes that treatment should be personalised to the particular needs of each individual patient.

She performs a wide variety of upper limb procedures, including: injections; Dupuytren’s contracture release; release of compressive neuropathy, including carpal tunnel syndrome; treatment of hand injuries (in particular nerve and tendon repair and reconstruction); congenital deformities; wrist arthroscopy; and treatment of tennis and golf elbow.

She performs microvascular surgery to suture tiny blood vessels for free flaps (moving a piece of tissue from one part of the body to another) and has performed many foot operations for ulcerations caused by diabetes and peripheral vascular disease, and correction of associated foot deformities.

In 1997 she received her Bachelor’s Degree, with honours, in Medical Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the same university in 2000. Dr Cheng did her orthopaedic residency training at the Prince of Wales Hospital, the teaching hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  She was awarded the Gold Medal in the orthopaedic fellowship examination of the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

She did fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery in China, Taiwan, and Spain. She worked at the Prince of Wales Hospital, before joining Asia Medical Specialists as a dedicated hand and microvascular surgeon in 2019.

She is Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Honorary Clinical Supervisor for the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians.

Outside work, Dr Cheng is keen on snowboarding, sailing and scuba diving.

Dr Cheng is currently based in Hong Kong, and she is also a visiting consultant at Shanghai United Family Hospital.
